The Village of Ziyamet

Ziyamet is a traditional sleepy farming village set between the larger villages of Mehmetcik and Yeni Erenkoy on the Karpaz coastal road. The village has 2 supermarkets, within a 5 minute walk from the property, the popular sandy beach area of Bafra with its crystal clear blue sea, restaurant and snack bar is just a 10 minute drive. This pretty village is also close to Yeni Erenkoy and Turtle beach which is set along the Karpaz coastal road. The new motorway system is easily accessible linking this sleepy village to the Kyrenia and Lefkoşa areas.  

   

Mehmetcik

The larger nearby village of Mehmetcik sits high on a hillside in the Karpaz Peninsular and has the most spectacular views of the picturesque valley below with the sea in the distance. Mehmetcik which translated means ‘little solder’ is a traditional Turkish village and is famous for growing grapes which villagers export to other areas of Cyprus. Its well-known grape festival is during the summer and people travel from the surrounding area to spend time enjoying this festival. The Village and its inhabitants are also well-known Zivania and Sucuk producers a traditional sweet made from grapes. Mehmetcik is a good sized friendly village with a host of shops and all the amenities for day to day living. The local council run beach is at Bafra just a few minutes’ drive down the hill, you will need to arrive early at the weekends as it is very popular with locals and tourists alike.

Yenierenkoy

In Turkish, the word Yeni  means new, so this village is New Erenkoy. Once the centre of the thriving and lucrative tobacco industry but after partition the tobacco conglomerates left the island and the industry was finished. However still very evident are the factories, packing houses and smokeries once associated with the business. Starting during the middle ages with most tobacco being produced in the Larnaca area, in the 20th century production moved to the Karpaz and The Tobacco Cooperative Society built the vast warehouse close to the village. Within the last decade the industry has undergone a revival and tobacco can once again be seen growing in the Karpaz landscape. With its narrow winding streets dotted with coffee shops and markets Yenierenkoy is a pleasant rambling village, the small tourist office is open in the summer months.

Karpaz Gate Marina is now open and operational. Located just north of the village of Yeni Erenkoy and just 20 minutes away from the Mehmetcik area. It is large enough for 350 plus vessels, including Super Yachts of over 65 meters. Restrictions on sailing along the territorial waters of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have now been lifted which means yachts will sail to this new and almost only available berthing spot in the Eastern Mediterranean. This will further add value to properties and investments in the area and act as a money magnet with the super rich bringing their yachts and wanting to explore the region
