The Area

Çamlibel (pronounced Cham-lee-bell) is a  traditional Turkish Cypriot village located inland on the western side of North Cyprus, around 15 miles from the harbour town of Kyrenia. You can reach it by driving west along the coastal road, past the village of Karşıyaka and the nearby Guzelyali beach where the road turns inland and up the hill and through the village of Geçitköy passing stunning views of the reservoir. In July Camlibel has 3 day annual Tomato festival in the village square with a full programme of music, dancing with stalls lining the streets and selling crafts, food, beverages and local produce. Camlibel also has a village museum, a euro park with children’s play area and an outdoor adult-fitness exercise park with the monastery behind currently being renovated to establish a historic attraction.


The Area sits around 825ft above sea level which provides fertile, rich soil, enabling local people to make their living from growing crops to sell at local markets. There are a few points of interest here though, especially the local cheese making factory where if you are lucky you can take a look and even participate in cheese making.  One of the pleasures of visiting Çamlibel are the views that you can take in to the east along the Kyrenia mountain range as well as the Troodos Mountains to the south which can be easily seen on a clear day.  It’s a lovely place to do some hiking with some great walks filtering away from the village.  The nearest beach is only around 10 minutes’ drive away with many other beaches including Akdeniz to the east and Kayalar to the north.
