After an earthquake in 1050 BC, the site was abandoned, leaving an opening for the rise of Salamis. The close proximity to Famagusta makes it a popular place for people to live who work in town. It is also close to a selection of wonderful sandy beaches along the Bay of Famagusta, particularly the popular Glapsides beach with has excellent facilities and water sports in the summer months. The Longbeach Leisure and water sports area is within easy reach.
