I really can’t fault this beautiful home at all! It’s well maintained, fantastic quality throughout, has superb mountain views and it’s being sold fully furnished (even down to the knives and forks!).  There are three double bedrooms all with fitted wardrobes and air conditioning and the master with en-suite shower room and French windows leading to the swimming pool. The Village

Once a small sleepy village, Karaoğlanoğlu has now grown to be a sought-after suburb of Kyrenia, about 5km to the west of the town. After the events of 1974, Ayyorgi was renamed Karaoğlanoğlu in memory of Col. Karaoğlanoğlu who was one of the first Turkish soldiers to fall on landing Cyprus. 

The village is famous for its lemon and olive groves which sprawl the hills and the fields. In the recent years, with the popularity of the area both with locals and with tourists, several hotels and restaurants have emerged on the coastline with care taken not to overdevelop the area to the detriment of the environment.

Chapel of St Fanurios, carved inside the caves on the coast is one place which can be seen in the area. The rocks under the chapel are known to contain fossils, rumoured to be that of a hippopotamus! Fanurios was an early Christian who while living in Asia Minor, followed the call of Christ and converted into Christianity and settled in Cyprus. According to the myth while climbing the steep cliffs one day he fell off and died on the spot where the chapel is now.

 

The Region

 

The Kyrenia, (Girne), area of Northern Cyprus is one of the most popular destinations for both holidaymakers and for those wishing to settle here. There is a wealth of European Heritage Sites spanning some 9,000 years of history, from Gothic churches and Crusader castles, to ancient Roman and Greek temples, ruined abbeys and old British colonial buildings. The Venetian built harbour in Kyrenia, reputed to be the finest in the Mediterranean, is lined with restaurants and pavement cafes. The harbour is currently used largely for pleasure craft, and the buildings are now mostly all restaurants, with outdoor tables along the water.
