The sheer rugged beauty of this unspoiled corner of the island is simply breathtaking. If Northern Cyprus is the undiscovered secret of the Mediterranean then the area around Kayalar must surely be one of the jewels in its crown. Here time has stood still. Shepherds tend their sheep and goats, cows are milked by hand and village life goes on much as it has for hundreds of years. This is your great escape. Great fishing too, said to one of the best spots on the island to fish! There are also fabulous tracks for walking or cycling or just sitting and admiring the view. Although you are away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts in West Kyrenia these can be reached by car in just over 20 minutes and the larger village of Guzelyurt in about the same time.  All along the coast line going towards Kyrenia you will find secluded sandy coves. This one is at Horseshoe Beach where you will find some of the best cooked traditional foods and fresh fish. All at reasonable prices.  There are so many beautiful places to visit in the region, take a walk around the reservoir near Camlibel, (shown above), and picnic in the forest. And a visit to the Mavi Kiosk or Blue House is a must too. This is a great location from which to explore the region being less than one hour from the famous walled city of Nicosia and just 30 minutes from Central Kyrenia with its beautiful Venetian Harbour and in between some fabulous beaches and mountain treks with some of the finest Crusader Castles in the region. The recently opened crossing to southern Cyprus at Yesilmak means that the whole of the northwest of the island is yours to explore
