The village of Mehmetcik sits high on a hillside in the Karpaz Pennisular and has
the most spectacular views of the picturesque valley below with the sea in the distance.
Mehmetcik which translated means ‘little solder’ is a traditional Turkish village
and is famous for growing grapes which villagers export to other areas of Cyprus.
Its well-known grape festival is during the summer and people travel from the surrounding
area to spend time enjoying this festival. The Village and its inhabitants are also
well-known Zivania and Sucuk producers a traditional sweet made from grapes. Mehmetcik
is a good sized friendly village with a host of shops and all the amenities day to
day living. The local council run beach is at Bafra just a few minutes’ drive down
the hill, you will need to arrive early at the weekends as this gently sloping beautiful
golden sandy beach is very popular with locals and tourists alike.
There are some new and exciting developments in this region including the examples
mentioned below .
Bafra – New Resort hotels
Investments made jointly from the private sector and the government in the Bafra
region are designed to boost tourism in the area. Plans for no less than 16 five
star hotels, a shopping centre and enlarged desalination facilities will make this
into the ‘Las Vegas’ of the Eastern Mediterranean’. The hotels are designed along
various themes with such names as The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Coliseum, The
Kaya Artimis, and Noah’s Ark etc. The 750 bed Kaya Artemis is already completed as
is the Noah’s Ark Hotel, both are impressive and along with the 18 hole golf course
currently planned certainly makes a statement about the future of tourism in this
part of Northern Cyprus. The new roads have been built now reduce the travel time
from both Kyrenia and Famagusta to this region. This touristic development is just
a 5 minute drive from the bungalow in Mehmetcik
As if that were not enough the new Karpaz Gate Marina is now open and operational.
Located just north of the village of Yeni Erenkoy and just 30 minutes away from Mehmetcik,
it is large enough for 350 plus vessels, including Super Yachts of over 65 meters.
Restrictions on sailing along the territorial waters of the Turkish Republic of Northern
Cyprus have now been lifted which means yachts will sail to this new and almost only
available berthing spot in the Eastern Mediterranean. This will further add value
to properties and investmentsin the area and act as a money magnet with the super-rich
bringing their yachts and wanting to explore the region.
Whether you are making the big move and heading towards the sun for a permanent life
change or looking for a holiday home away from the big complexes and crowds, this
cute 3 bedroom village style property could be just what you are after. This property
is located in Mehmetcik, on the outskirts of Bogaz, in a quiet and sleepy pretty
Cypriot village, where there is just a sprinkling of European people living. Mix
in with the local Cypriots and see just how friendly they are. Mehmetcik is a traditional
Turkish Cypriot village located 15 minutes from Iskele with the historic city of
Famagusta a pleasant 30 minutes drive along the coast road.
