Just to the east of Iskele is the quaint fishing village of Bogaz, which is a tourist attraction in its own right, and is on the road leading to the fabulous Karpaz region. This region is sometimes called the “Panhandle”of Cyprus due to its geographical shape. It is a protected area of outstanding natural beauty with ancient villages that have hardly changed for generations. There is a vast array of wildlife and flora and fauna and the area is famed for having over 40 sandy beaches, many of which are untouched by development. Some are home to two species of endangered sea turtles that use them for their nesting grounds. Closer to Iskele is the exciting new resort at Bafra where massive investment has seen the development of five star hotels and a world class casino among its attractions. A new marina within reach of this property is expected to add further value to the investment. These developments are a sure indication that the big money investors have a lot of confidence in the future of North Cyprus and in the eastern side in particular.
